The Search Is Over

We took it as a family challenge to find a school that my daughter Pot will like.  We started going around the city, looking for places were she can feel at home - one that will  make her stay for a minimum of one year.

I do not think I have shared that Pot started studying last year.  The year was not good to her because she had an incident that made her change her mind about going, somehow instilling trauma on her to step on an educational institution.  The incident happened in October.  We resigned from forcing her to go to school in December.

Then there was that important choice between progressive and traditional schools.  I have to admit that I have never researched this much in my entire life - not even during my university thesis. Heh.

Would she make it to the standard way of teaching or would she need a student-centered, individualized approach for now?  Will she be more comfortable with isolated or integrated curriculum?  How long can we afford the tuition fees of a progressive school?

....

So we went around the city to look at schools one after another.  We spent quite a chunk of change on diagnostic/admission tests (which happily Pot aced).  There were some that made her feel comfortable and there were others that somehow gave her the creeps just as she starts walking on the hallway.

Three weeks before the school starts, we shortlisted places that we can send her to.  It is important that she approves because that is already one step of making her go.

We are happy that the search is over.  She has her eyes set on a good school and we are good with the factors we considered.

We are excited!  2012, make way for Portia! :)
